The counsel

*Study scripture*

*1Kings 12:6*

Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who stood before his father Solomon while he still lived, and he said, “How do you advise me to answer these people?”

*Theme:The counsel*
From this portion of scripture Rehoboam was a son of king Solomon who was assumed to be the next king .

Starting from verse 1 ,we see Rehoboam was heading to city of Shechem in order to make him a king . From verse 4 people came to Rehoboam
1Kgs.12.4 – “Your father made our yoke heavy; now therefore, lighten the burdensome service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you.”
They expected him to lighten the hard service of his father (King Solomon)and his heavy yoke on
them in order for people to serve him.

King Rehoboam had to go for some advise [ counsel ] from the old men who had stood before king Solomon his father . These men gave him advise that if he can be a servant to these people today , serve them and speak good words to them when is answering them then they will be his servants forever .

But we see Him in verse 8 ignoring the advise given to him by the old men thus taking on the bad advise from the young men who grew up with him . This alone accelerated to his missing out of becoming a king .

The question is where do you get advise from ?

As children of God, God expects us to always receive advise from Him and through people who are in line with His will .

We have to always get good advise and instructions in order for us to live wisely in the life given to us by God
