*LESSON TWO: FIRST PRINCIPLES OF THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST*
*PROGRAM 5: LAYING ON OF HANDS*
?? Hebrews 6:2 KJV Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of *LAYING ON OF HANDS,* and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
?? Laying on of hands has very many reasons however scriptures give us some of the most important reasons as below;
*1. Impartation of the spirit*
Deuteronomy 34:9 KJV And Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; *for Moses had laid his hands upon him:* and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.
?? When the lord wanted to impart the spirit of wisdom to Joshua, he asked Moses to lay hands on him. The moment Moses did so then Joshua wass full of the spirit of wisdom.
?? Acts 8:17 KJV Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
Paul and John laid their hands on the men to recieve the holy ghost. That was an impartation.
*2. Impartation of the spiritual gift.*
?? Notice the difference, the one was to Impart the spirit while this one has to do with a spiritual gift. There is a difference between I pattation of the spirit and impartation of the spiritual gift.
?? 1st Timothy 4:14 KJV Neglect not the gift that is in thee, *which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.*
?? Acts 19:6 KJV And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
The result here was speaking in tongues and prophesying. So the impartation of gifts can also come by the laying on of hands.
*3. Speaking a blessing upon an individual and his generations.*
?? Many times when our fathers of the faith wanted to speak a blessing over the people, they always laid hands on the people.
We see this with Jacob, Isaac, etc. They always layed hands on their children in order to impart a blessing or pass on the blessing.
?? Genesis 48:14 KJV And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the firstborn.
Read the whole chapter 48 to understand more. So another reason for laying on of hands is to bless a person and his next generations.
*4. To heal the sick.*
?? Act 28:8 KJV And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.
?? Mark 16:18 KJV They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
?? So to pass on healing you lay hands. This means that laying on of hands transfers a healing power Into an individual.
??So generally speaking when you come across a sick person, feel free to lay your hands and heal them because our hands are god’s hands. They carry healing within them hallelujah glory to God. Exercise this even upon yourself.
*5. Commissioning*
?? This is the most sensitive part. You don’t just comission people anyhow Into the things of God. To comission a man is done by the holy spirit himself.
Paul tells Timothy be not quick to lay hands on men while sending them into ministry. This is done by the holy spirit.
?? 1st Timothy 5:22 KJV Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure.
So laying of hands is also done to comission a man into ministry and this is done by spiritual fathers as led by the spirit. Some of the examples of men commissioned by laying on of hands includes;
*Commissioning of the seven evangelists*
?? Acts 6:5-6 KJV 5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch: 6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
*Commissioning of Paul and Barnabas*
?? Act 13:2-3 KJV 2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. 3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
So those are some of the basic uses of laying on of hands.
*However what all of us should do is to always lay hands on the sick. Feel free to exercise yourself in this wonderful place. Lay your hands always when you come across a sick person.*
The others have to be a leading by the spirit.
28/06/2022, 12:46 – Godfrey Rwothomio: I hope we are learning. However I pray that we understand these things because not many find time to study these things or even teach on them.
Use this opportunity to learn them. Use this opportunity to understand the basic truths of the word and as you are faithful in the little he will increase you.
