Warning against idol worship

*Study Scripture* 1 Kings 13:2-6 He cried out against the altar by the word of the Lord: “O altar, altar! This is what the Lord says: ‘A son named Josiah will be born to the house of David. On you he will sacrifice the priests of the high places who now make offerings here, and human bones will be burned on you.’” That same day the man of God gave a sign: “This is the sign the Lord has declared: The altar will be split apart and the ashes on it will be poured out.” When King Jeroboam heard what the man of God cried out against the altar at Bethel, he stretched out his hand from the altar and said, “Seize him!” But the hand he stretched out toward the man shriveled up, so that he could not pull it back. Also, the altar was split apart and its ashes poured out according to the sign given by the man of God by the word of the Lord. Then the king said to the man of God, “Intercede with the Lord your God and pray for me that my hand may be restored.” So the man of God interceded with the Lord, and the king’s hand was restored and became as it was before.

*Warning against idol worship*
In this study Scripture, we see God sends His prophet to warn the people of Bethel against the worship of idolatrous worship in the alter of Bethel. That the word of God will endure forever and idol worship won’t last for long.
We also see King Jeroboam stretching out his arm of which it is dried up and the alter is burnt into ashes. Many times many of us have doubt on the word of God but the word of God must prevail at all times and it’s true .
We also further see that the king pleads the prophet to ask to God to restore his hand back. He wasnt able to look for help any where else for example from his small gods but he was asking that God may restore his hand from through His great power and favor.
Idolatrous worship may not necessarily be statue’s or images but then anything that we put in place before God. It can be our businesses, friends and many others. But our God is sovereign and should have the first position in our hearts and true worship of Him in sovereignty.
Even in our daily life we see people coming back to God for mercy despite the many times they have disregarded the word of God. This shows us how God is sovereign over everything that may be on the earth and above and so we have to leave by His commands and His words.

*Nugget*
We ought to serve only one true living God and not involve in idolatrous worship because our God is sovereign forever and deserves all the adoration and praise.
