*UNDERSTANDING GRACE #1*
*Definition of grace*
1?? Basing on language (Hebrew and Greek)
? Grace in the Hebrew is ‘Chen’ meaning it is the unmerited favour of the lord. Something that you don’t deserve.
? Grace in Greek is ‘Charis’ which means the same thing. The unmerited favour of the lord.
So generally speaking grace by definition is a favour given to a person that they don’t deserve.
2?? Basing on scriptural usage.
We can also define grace basing on the context of scriptures. That is to say depending on how the word Chen and Charis has been used.
? Grace is a gift of God
_Ephesians 3:7 (Light House Bible) Of which I was made a minister, *according to the gift of the grace of God given to me* by the effective working of his power._
_Ephesians 2:8-9 (Darby) 8 For ye are saved by grace, through faith; and this not of yourselves; it is God’s gift: 9 not on the principle of works, that no one might boast._
*Ponder: what is a gift?*
?Strength or ability or power of God.
2nd Corinthians 12:9 KJV And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
God calls his grace his strength, another version says power.
_2nd Corinthians 12:9 LEB And he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, because the power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore rather I will boast most gladly in my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may reside in me._
2nd Timothy 2:1 KJV Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
This means grace makes you strong.
? Grace is what the lord has done for you. It is god’s responsibility. It is God’s part.
_Romans 11:6 KJV And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work._
The moment you add your works then grace ceases to be grace. We have many people who say they are teaching grace but when you analyse what they teach you realise that they are teaching men’s works and scriptures tell us that the moment you do so then grace is no more grace. It ceases to be grace.
When you say that you are a grace preacher then you preach entirely what God has done. That’s grace in its pure form.
_Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast._
