Of Fathers 5*

*Matthew 23:9* ; _And call no man your father on earth: for one is your Master, even the Christ; and all ye are brethren_ .

*Of Fathers 5* .
He should be your father as well as God is his Father and he shouldn’t point to himself but to God. These are the traits we learnt about a spiritual Father. God is raising spiritual authorities amongst us and therefore He avails such knowledge in our times.

Our theme scripture highlights a conversation that is pivotal in this teaching. See, in [Matthew 23:6-10]: why shouldn’t we use this title? because the scribes who loved being addressed as fathers, were gathering for themselves all the glory and teaching men what they themselves couldn’t do.

Keeping the worldly view of things constant, God’s intention for fathers was that children would get a picture of what the heavenly father is like. When you father meets your needs, it’s to tell you that God supplies for your needs [Matthew 7:9-11].

Likewise, a spiritual Father should be one whose teachings and actions point to the real Father: God. This portion of scripture was not nullifying the fact of spiritual Fathers, no! if so the Apostles wouldn’t have used it in their letters or teachings. Paul used it [1 Timothy 1:2], Apostle John [1 John 2:13,14], therefore to understand the theme scripture, we ought to read the whole chapter.

We receive admonitions from our Fathers just like we would from God. The end of our relationship with these men and ladies is that we see God and not to idolise them. They shouldn’t take a place in our lives more than God since God’s purpose for them in our lives is that we understand Him.

[2 Kings 2:14]: to split the River Jordan, Elisha called for the God of Elijah, not Elijah or his Spirit. But the children of the prophets decided to look for Elijah instead, because they hadn’t seen God in Elijah, rather idolised him. When your dear Papa or Mama leaves, are you going to lament all your days at Campus? It shouldn’t be found in you, because you’ve seen and known God in them.

*Prayer* :
Ooh precious Father, in Jesus’ name I thank you. For my eyes have been opened to see you God as the end of every spiritual and physical relationship I have. With this knowledge my days are glorious. Amen.
