Oftentimes, people live their lives in pursuit of things they do not need. The problem is that most of them do not know that they don’t need these things.
 
True deliverance comes when God shows you that you actually do not need the things that you are dying to have. This experience changes your perspective of what is important and what is not. It transforms how you seek the Lord and why you seek Him.
 
Our theme scripture is a result of such an experience by David. The Lord took him to the end of all perfection, of all pleasures, of all earthly pursuits and gave him the realisation that none of those things could be compared to what the Word of God is.
 
You do not have to sample all the pleasures of life to understand that they are vanity. Solomon did so for you and passed his verdict, “vanity, all is vanity” (Ecclesiastes 1:2).
 
The Word of God is the ultimate pleasure. When Job realised this, he said that it is better than necessary food (Job 23:12). In the New Testament, Christ tells us that we live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4). 
 
Pursue the Word of God because that is where contentment starts. It is the fountain that diminishes all other needs and leaves us with our true need — the need for God.

*PRAYER:* Loving Father, I thank You for this truth. I thank You for Your Word and what it has done and continues to do in my life. I look to it as my ultimate source, my hope, peace, joy and strength. It is from the Word that I drink and find sustenance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
